grosgrain ribbon
Grosgrain ribbon is perhaps the most popular hair bow ribbon. It is versatile and will hold its shape well. It comes in solids and patterns, is strong, firm, stiff and has a specific ribbed appearance.
The most popular thing to do with grosgrain ribbon is to produce a "korker bow."
In this technique, strips of ribbon are wound around wooden doll rods and secured with a clothes pin. They are then placed on a cookie sheet and heated in the oven for twenty five minutes at 275 degrees.
Once cooled they will be formed into permanent spirals that can be arranged together in your hair bow. They are full and fluffy and are perfect for cheer hair bows.

Satin Ribbon
Satin ribbon is soft with a lustrous, shiny front and a dull back side. Sometimes it can be two toned as pictured here.
It is very slippery and therefore harder to work with.
Satin is best used as a longer "streamer" coming out of the bottom of another bow for a very pretty, dramatic effect.
Perfect for weddings, bridal parties, flower girls and bouquets, it will also produce a softer, "floppy" bow if that is what you want.
